The global search for alternatives to fossil fuels is gaining prominence, and Brazil is emerging as a potential leader in this scenario, driven by a diversified energy matrix. Brazilian companies, such as Grupo BBF ( Brasil BioFuels), are emerging in this context, being the largest producer of palm oil in Latin America.
Currently, Grupo BBF cultivates more than 75,000 hectares in the states of Pará and Roraima, producing more than 200,000 tons of palm oil a year. The company's vision goes further, contributing to Brazil's energy transition by producing biofuels for various purposes.
Brazil, with its vast area available, has the potential to grow oil palm sustainably in degraded areas in the Amazon region. Strict legislation, established in 2010, allows cultivation only in areas deforested by December 2007, making it possible to generate 186 billion liters of palm oil annually.
"The company was founded with the aim of changing the energy matrix of the Isolated Systems in the North of Brazil, creating jobs, generating income and reducing the cost of electricity for the population, based on a sustainable and clean matrix, replacing the use of fossil diesel oil with biodiesel made from palm oil. Over the years, it has been possible to extend our operations to an even greater mission, to contribute to the country's energy transition, producing biofuels for other purposes as well," says Milton Steagall, CEO of Grupo BBF.
From 2026, Grupo BBF will supply SAF and Green Diesel to Vibra Energia, using palm oil grown in the Amazon. According to the company, the investment will be more than R$2.2 billion in a new biorefinery for industrial-scale production.
