The company Brasil BioFuels (BBF), the leading palm oil producer in Latin America, took part on Tuesday (6), at the headquarters of the Pará Agricultural Defense Agency (Adepará), in Belém, in a ceremony to present the Plant Transit Guide (GTV) for oil palm. The event was attended by representatives of Faepa and Abrapalma, who led the agenda and presented the actions of Ordinance No. 6143/2023, which instituted the Traceability Policy for the Oil Palm Production Chain.
The organizations highlighted the importance of the oil palm GTV as a fundamental tool for tracking and inspecting the transportation of fruit, proving the origin and destination of production. The ordinance, which comes into force on May 1, 2024, also establishes the mandatory registration of cultivation areas, processing units and transporters of bunches of fresh oil palm fruit produced in the state.
Authorities such as Adepará's director of Plant Protection and Inspection, Lucionila Pimentel, and the vice-president of Abrapalma and agricultural director of Grupo BBF, Fábio Pacheco, were present, along with representatives from other institutions such as the State Secretariat for Family Farming and the Pará Federation of Agriculture and Livestock (FAEPA).
For Lucionila Pimentel, the GTV for palm oil will be crucial in curbing irregularities in the marketing of the fruit in the state. "The product can only be received if it has a plant transit guide and the plant transit guide is monitored," she said. "There will be an inspector who will monitor the entry, the reception of the products and the organization of the information regarding the production received on a monthly basis. So the product that enters the industries will be accompanied by an intense inspection," she added.
Oil palm - Grupo BBF, one of the main oil palm producers in Pará, supports the regulation of the oil palm production chain. With more than 60,000 hectares under cultivation and encouraging more than 450 farmers, it stands out as a promoter of family farming. The state of Pará leads national production, with more than 2.9 million tons of oil palm annually, according to IBGE.
For Abrapalma, the Plant Transit Guide is crucial to strengthening Segup's work in identifying irregularities in the palm trade. With more than two hundred thousand hectares of plantations linked to the association, it is essential to maintain inspection, guaranteeing the sustainability of the sector in Pará.
